history of Afd Ethiopia  
  AfD was established in 1994 by the Founder, Sahle-Mariam Mogus. The organization started its development work in Akai, a small town located in the southern periphery of Addis Ababa, by providing vocational training for 26 unemployed girls. Over the years AfD’s development and poverty reduction program beneficiaries reached over 20,000 people. AfD’s currently operates in Akaki (Addis Ababa Region) and Asella (Oromia Region) towns. Over the years its development intervention programs have been integrated focusing on areas of income generation and employment creation, in health care and HIV/AIDS prevention and control, in water supply and sanitation, in education, environmental protection, in training and capacity building as well as in small project funding.
As a registered NGO in Ethiopia (registration number 318) AfD presently has 35 staff members in its payroll.
 
     
  Governance Structure  
 

The governing body of AfD is the General Assembly which is the highest decision making body. The Board, which constitutes five members, is democratically elected from among the General Assembly of 12 members, and serves for a period of three years. The Board provides guidance and policy direction to the organization. The General Assembly appoints the Executive Director responsible for the overall planning, management and supervision of the organization; including fundraising and representing the organization in all its dealings with third parties.

AfD has a Secretariat headed by the Executive Director. The Secretariat is responsible for program planning, implementation and follow-up of all the program activities of the organization.
